Reginald Lamont Allen known as “Maestro”, was born on September 9, 1964, at Kenner Army Hospital in Fort Lee, Virginia to Lucille Granderson Allen and the late SGT (Ret) Eugene Allen, Sr. He departed this life on February 22, 2026, at his residence in Baltimore, Maryland.
At the age of 8, Reginald joined Tabernacle Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia, where he was a member of the Cub Scouts and sang in the choir. He also attended Springdale Community Church in Springdale, Maryland. Reginald love for God and his prayer life was near and dear to him.
Reginald attended Petersburg Public School System and graduated from Petersburg High School, Class of 1982. After graduating, he attended Virginia State University from 1982 to 1983. Reginald then attended Morgan State University, graduating in 1998 with a B.S. Degree in Instrumental Music with Teacher Certification. While at Morgan State, he was a proud and dedicated member of the Morgan State Marching Machines under the direction of Mr. John Newson and Mr. Melvin Miles. Some of Reginald’s noteworthy accomplishments included: Morgan State University Bandsman of the Year (1987), Member of Liberty All-American Marching Band (1986), President Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity – ETA Gamma Chapter (1985-1987) and the Olympic All American Marching Band Member (1984).
Reginald’s first employment assignment was with Hyattsville Middle School as a Music Instructor. He later taught in the Prince George County and Baltimore City Public Schools. While there, he thoroughly enjoyed his position as a Teaching Assistant to Mr. Alvin Wallce at Baltimore City College High School. Reginald savored his position as Youth Services Coordinator at Park Heights Community Center. He taught for 32 years, pouring his heart and soul into his music and teaching the students his musical talents.
Reginald loved his family, friends and community dearly and was always concerned for them. Even though he was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Reginald took great pride in being a father. He adored his son tremendously and did all he could for him. Their relationship was beautiful and will be cherished forever.
Reginald's musical gifts and talents were admired by many and made an impact on all the lives he touched. He will always remain in our hearts.
In addition to his father, Reginald was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Atmos and Mary Granderson; and his paternal grandparents, Richard Allen and Tessie Crawford. Reginald leaves to cherish his beautiful memories to his son who was the love of his life, SPC Reginald L. Allen II of Fort Bragg, North Carolina (his son’s mother Malika Williams of Fort Washington, Maryland); his devoted mother, Lucille Granderson Allen of Petersburg, Virginia; brother, Eugene Allen, Jr. (Angelette Foote) of Petersburg, Virginia; aunt, Claudette Granderson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; nieces, LaQuinda Sharpe and Naomi Allen both of Petersburg, Virginia; nephew, Terrell Lamont Allen of Petersburg, Virginia; devoted cousins, Herbert Harvell, Jr. of Fairfax, Virginia, Vernon Stith of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Donyelle Woods of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Roy Lee Granderson of Prince George County, Virginia; godparents in Christ, James and Joanne Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland; best friends of 35 plus years, Dr. Mark E. King (Reverend Shauna who was Reggie's spiritual advisor) of Bowie, Maryland, Clayton Ferrell of Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Keiva Wiley Lark of Florida and Theresa Wallace of Baltimore Maryland; devoted friends, Theron Terry of North Carolina, Arthur Graves of Chesterfield, Virginia and William West of Springfield, Virginia; a special friend, Anna Johnson; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends too numerous to name to include the Petersburg High School Class of 1982 and band members who he loved with his heart and soul.
Baltimore, MD: A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 13, 2026, at Ray of Hope Baptist Church, 3000 Parkside Drive, Baltimore, MD, the Rev. Ayanna L. Franklin, Pastor, the Rev. Don Johnson, eulogist.

Reggie was a couple years ahead of me but was an outstanding trumpet player in the PHS Band under Bill McKinley. He was truly someone who kept me motivated to get better at being a musician.

Mr. Allen was awesome. It was a pleasure working with him at Hyattsville Middle School. He cared for his students. He absolutely loved his son and cared deeply for Malika. He will certainly be missed. Prayers for his mother and his family.
