Marvin Hugo Schwab, 83, a lifelong resident of Standish, MI, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Marvin loved his community and always looked forward to returning home from his adventures, where he could share laughter and coffee with lifelong friends.
Marvin was the oldest son of Hugo and Marie (Gobrogge) Schwab. Growing up on a family farm, he learned the value of hard work, faith, and family, and later instilled those values in his daughters. He attended Michigan State University and was employed by Buick. He later went on to become an agent with Farm Bureau Insurance, retiring after 35 years.
On January 23, 1965, he married Sandra Kay Server. Together they raised their three daughters on a hobby farm. He found great joy in working in his garden, woodworking, camping, boating, restoring antique tractors and a fire truck. His famous long road trips are the source of many cherished memories and bouts of laughter. He was always a willing participant in a spontaneous escapade. He was happiest when his friends and family joined him on an adventure.
Marvin served his community through many organizations like the Arenac County Fair Board, Lions Club and the local antique and gas engine show. His 30 years of dedication to the Standish Area Fire Authority gave him the perfect platform to serve others – whether responding to emergencies at all hours or writing grants to secure training and funding for equipment, his selfless commitment has left a lasting mark on the community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; and by his brothers, Michael Schwab and Dr. Ronald Schwab. Marvin is survived by his children, Jodi Rios (Raul) of Huntington Beach, CA, Gretchen Clark (David) of Athens, and Heather Dendinger (Greg) of Richland. He was a proud grandfather to Alek, Garret (Autumn), Sarah (David), Jacob, Nick, Madeline, and Nathan, and a loving great-grandfather to Cooper, Quinn, and Theodore.
