Rockney Pletcher Obituary

PLETCHER, Rockney Dee Rockney Dee Pletcher, known as "Rock" to his friends and family, entered peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while at his home in Dallas, Texas, on February 17, 2026. Rock was born December 28, 1940 to Jacob Hornburger and Demerita Beagle Pletcher in Arnett, Oklahoma. He grew up as a preacher's kid and lived in many areas of Texas completing High school as Valedictorian at Leakey, TX. Rock then earned his accounting degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1963 and acquired his CPA. He later attended law school at Southern Methodist University. After his admission to the State Bar of Texas in 1967, he helped found the firm of Pletcher, Lee, Douglas and Casterline and later practiced with Shank, Irwin, Conant; Vial, Hamilton, Koch and Knox; and Brown McCarroll. Rock devoted his life to following Jesus, serving others, and loving his family well. For more than 55 years he practiced business and tax law, was board certified in estate planning and probate law, and owned and served on the Boards of multiple Texas bank holding companies. Yet those who knew him best will remember not his professional accomplishments, but his kindness, wisdom, and humor. A native of the Texas Hill Country, Rock never lost his love for its rolling hills, clear rivers, and fields of bluebonnets. He met his future wife, Barbara King, at Garner State Park in 1961, the beginning of a 62 year devoted marriage and a lifelong partnership. He cherished time at the family ranch near Glen Rose, where he shared adventures with his children and grandchildren, told Bible stories beneath the live oaks, and rested in gratitude for God's creation. A man of deep and abiding faith, Rock served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Dallas and later taught Sunday school for many years at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Rock was preceded in death by his parents , Jacob and Demerita and sister Sissie Urick. Rock is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara King Pletcher; his children, D'Ann Pletcher George and husband Daniel, Stephen Pletcher and wife Michelle, and Melinda Pletcher Cecil and husband Blake; and his eight grandchildren, Eleanor, Renee, Jacob, Colin, Bryan, Rock, Vaughan and Luke, and treasured the "Blessed Assurance" of knowing that they all accepted Christ as their Savior. He is also survived by brothers J.J. Pletcher and Zale Pletcher and sister Karen Pletcher Grimmer. The Pletcher family wishes to express their gratitude to Michael David Light for his continued love and support and to Latonya Lowe and Trinity Jelk for their exceptional care for Rock. Celebration of Life service will be held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, March 3rd at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Highland Park Presbyterian Church in honor of Rock's memory.

We will treasure the many memories we shared with Rockney and Barbara while raising our kids together in Texas. We will never forget our days in the Martel Apartments D'Ann finding Goldilocks sleeping in her bed, Melinda and Bryan rehersing their wedding vows, our eventful ski trip to Purgatory, our baptism at First Baptist Church in Dallas with Stefani crying while being consoled by Barbara thinking her mom and dad went off to heaven and so many more. You are our extended family and cannot believe Rock is gone. Our deepest condolences to Barbara, D'Ann, Stephen and Melinda and your sweet families. We are so proud of you all!
Much love,
Chris, Terry, Stefani, Bryan, Alexis and Nick
