Lloyd Carter

Lloyd Leonard Carter, affectionately known as "Shoestring," 93, was born in 1932 to Mattie and Ernest Carter and lived life defined by grit, faith, hard work, and deep devotion to family. He was a friend to many and a beloved father, brother, grandparent and great-grandparent. He grew up in the town of Egypt (now Fort A. P. Hill), Doswell, Virginia and Caroline County, particularly along Countyline Church Road. In the end, he settled just across the road from his homeplace, surrounded by the family who loved him most. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Alice Toombs Carter; his beloved parents, Mattie and Ernest Carter and a sister, Elizabeth Carter. He is survived by his children, Teresa Satterwhite, Peggy Snead and Timothy Carter; his sister, Lois Brooks; his five grandchildren, Eric Snead, Justin Snead, Alison Snead, Katelyn Carter and Nickolas Carter; eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends 10 to 11 am Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Storke Funeral Home, 111 South Main Street, Bowling Green, VA. 22427. A funeral service will follow at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at County Line Baptist Church, 3461 Ladysmith Road, Ruther Glen, VA. 22546.
