Virginia Gammill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 5, 2025.
Atlanta - Virginia Page Gammill died January 30, 2025, at her home in Atlanta, GA. She was 2 months shy of her 105th birthday.

Born on March 24,1920, in McComb, MS., to the late Myrtle and William J. Page, she attended McComb High School and Southwest Jr. College, then moved to Jackson to work at the Jackson Army Airbase. Immediately after WW11 she met the love of her life, Dave Gammill, who affectionally called her "Vir". They enjoyed 64 years together in Jackson until his death in 2014.

Virginia was a true Southern Belle, always with loveliness, grace and pastel colors.

She was a stellar bridge player, enjoying many bridge clubs, dancing, sing-a-longs, the Jackson Country Club, Le Dejeuner Luncheon Club and traveling with her Lunch Bunch group. She and Dave were members of "The Lunch Bunch" group for over 50 years.

Vir was an especially proud grandmother and great grandmother.

Vir is survived by her daughter, Gailyn Thornton (John), grandsons, John Thornton (Pierson), Patrick McShane, Christopher McShane (Pearson), and niece, Paula Tumlinson (Bob) and family. Four great grandchildren: John, Charlotte, Wilson and Martha. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dave Gammill and daughter, Dianna Raines.

A Celebration of Life Service was held in Atlanta on Feb.6.
