Inda Stora Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Homes Inc - Monroe on Feb. 27, 2026.
Inda Stora of Monroe, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on February 11, 2026, at the age of 85.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 27, 1940, to Edith and Walter Johnson, she spent much of her early childhood in Stockholm, Maine. Here, she would recall with little fondness that she and the other children would assist in the harvest during potato-picking season when schools closed. Here also, she would recall with great fondness many happy times spent with her cousins.

Her family later moved to Stoughton, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Stoughton High School in 1958 and served as vice president of her senior class.

After graduation, she joined Prudential Insurance Company and, while training in New Jersey, met her future husband at a social at Upsala College. She married Carl Stora in 1961, and they settled in Monroe, New York, where they would raise their three children and become active members of the community.

Inda worked at both Collage and Rodier in Monroe, and was a gifted craftsperson who designed and built exquisite dollhouses by hand. She was active in St. Paul Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church of Monroe and served more than 14 years on the Monroe Village Architectural Appearance Review Board. Inda volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout den mother, and delivered Meals on Wheels. She organized afternoon bingo at Valley View Nursing Home in Goshen, NY, a reflection of her commitment to public service, taking special pride in ensuring every participant received a prize.

Inda was devoted to her family, cherished and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was a loyal and steadfast friend. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carl Stora of Monroe; her brother Richard Johnson of Stoughton, MA, her children, David Stora of Monroe, Tracy Stora of Rye, and Andrew Stora of Bloomingburg, six grandchildren (Elise, Thomas, Alex, David, Evan, and Erik), and three great-grandchildren (Madeline, Eleonora, and Cillian); She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Philip, and her nephew, Eric.

Services and burial will take place in Lake Como, Pennsylvania, in the spring. A celebration of her life is planned for March 21 at the Captain's Table in Monroe, NY, from 12:00 to 3:00.

My condolences to all of Inda´s family. I´m so sorry to hear of Inda´s passing. We were neighbors for many years as our children grew up in a wonderful neighborhood over the years. Inda was always concerned about our community and the people who live there. Thank you Inda

Inda was the best "best friend" I've ever had. I have so many happy memories of getting together for lunch and going out to garage sales on Saturday afternoons. She was fun, funny, very kind and generous. She hosted bingo games at the nursing home (prizes were items purchased from garage sales). I remember watching everyone gather and have a great time, all because of her. By her example she taught me. Love you, Inda, and I'll miss you!

Inda and I met at age twelve and remained loyal and steadfast friends until her passing. Our memories spanned 74 years which included our mariages and the births of our children and grandchildren. We took driver ed in high school together, served on numerous committees, and were rarely apart thoughout our high school experience. I'll miss my friend dearly. May she rest in a well deserved peace.
