Mary Jane Oakes, 77, of Newton, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026 after a long battle with cancer at AdviniaCare in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Born July 13, 1948, she worked her entire professional career with the Internal Revenue Service.
On October 7, 1978, Mary Jane married Donald Morton Oakes, with whom she shared a loving partnership and a passion for motorcycle riding. The couple also delighted in the companionship of their Boston Terriers. Mary Jane was an active member of Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star and treasured the friendships and community she found through those organizations.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Mary Noyes, and her brothers Tom and Tenney. Mary Jane is lovingly remembered by her husband, Donald; her sister Brenda and husband Ken Martenson; nephews Matt and Cam; sister-in-law Margaret “Sis” and husband Robert LeBlanc; and nieces Chantal and Danielle and Danielle’s daughter Aurora.
The family will hold a private burial service in the spring. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to honor Mary Jane’s memory may consider supporting Merrimac Valley Hospice, a local animal rescue, or a community organization meaningful to their own hearts. Arrangements were made by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA 01913.
