Obituary published on Legacy.com by Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations - La Grange on Mar. 4, 2026.
Matthew James Kosler, known affectionately as Matt by his loved ones, was a beacon of faith, intelligence, and selfless devotion. Born on August 6, 1976, in the small, close-knit community of
Shiner, Texas, Matt's early life was steeped in the values of hard work and Christian fellowship that would come to define him. On March 1, 2026, at the age of 49, Matt was called to his eternal home in La Grange, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service.
Matt's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his adoring wife, Chrissy Kosler; his children, whom he cherished, Lauren, her boyfriend Kollin Bergt, Michael, his fiancé Morgan Gray, and Kathryn Kosler; his loving parents, Gerard and Ludmila "Micki" Kosler; his siblings, Valerie Martinez (Ricardo), Stephen (Sheryl), and Timmy (Nikki) Kosler, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond; his uncle, Monsignor Tim Kosler. Each family member was touched by Matt's unwavering support and enduring love. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Otto and Helen Kosler, Felix and Mary Chilek; and his father-in-law, John Marquis.
During his teenage years, he proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was honored with induction into the Order of the Arrow, reflecting his leadership, dedication, and commitment to service. As a proud graduate of St. Paul High School, Class of 1994, Matt's pursuit of excellence led him to Texas State Technical College, where he earned a degree in instrumentation. His education became the foundation for a distinguished career that began at Diamond Shamrock Refinery in Three Rivers, Texas. Matt's expertise and dedication were further showcased during his 25-year tenure at the Lower Colorado River Authority in Austin, Texas, where his meticulous and precise nature contributed to his professional achievements.
As a devout Catholic, Matt lived his faith through action. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Chromcik Council #2574, embodying the council's principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. Matt's faith-filled life was a testament to his belief in the power of community and service.
Matt's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He found joy in the simple pleasures of watching YouTube videos while savoring cheese balls and a cold beer. A true family man, he was happiest spending time with his loved ones, whether it was rebuilding trucks and tractors, farming, or tending to his cattle. He shared a special bond with his son, Michael, who was his right-hand man. Together they worked side by side, and he took great pride in teaching Michael everything he knew - not just about farming and machinery, but about hard work, integrity, and the value of family. He also shared a special bond with his father whom he talked to on the phone every Friday and Sunday night like clockwork. His commitment to his community was evident in his willingness to lend a helping hand to neighbors in need. Matt's loyal dog, Benny, was often by his side, especially during their cherished rides to town.
To say Matt was intelligent would be an understatement; his keen mind was matched only by his selflessness. He approached every task with precision and care, traits that earned him respect and admiration from all who knew him. Although he was a quiet man, when he did speak it was with words of wisdom or sarcasm. Matt's presence in the lives of his family and friends was a constant source of strength and guidance.
Matthew James Kosler's journey on this earth may have concluded, but the impact of his life continues to resonate. He will be remembered as a man of God, a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring son, uncle and brother, and a true friend to all. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we mourn the loss of such a remarkable soul, we take solace in the knowledge that Matt's spirit lives on, guiding us with the same love and wisdom he shared so generously during his time with us.
