Stephen (Steve) M. Balog passed away on January 29, 2026, in
Plantation, Florida. Born on September 26, 1939, in
Trenton, New Jersey, Steve was the beloved son of the late Esther M. Balog and the late Steve Balog.
Steve's formative years were spent in Trenton, where he attended St. Stephen King of Hungary Church and grammar school. He later continued his education at Trenton Catholic Boy's High School, laying the foundation for a life marked by faith and service.
Steve proudly served as a member of the New Jersey National Guard. His professional life began with the State of New Jersey, working in the Purchasing Department. He briefly worked at the Reedman Automobile Corporation in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, before dedicating over 30 years to the Housing Authority of the City of Trenton. Steve retired from the Housing Authority in 1997, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and hard work.
For nearly 35 years, Steve shared his life with his beloved partner, the late Norman J. Wood. Together, they explored the world, traveling to destinations such as Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Turkey, Hong Kong, and Mexico. Their journeys also took them across most of the 48 states in the U.S., three provinces in Canada, and the Caribbean islands.
In September 2006, Steve made South Florida his home, settling in the city of Sunrise. He had a deep appreciation for music and theater, often attending Broadway shows. Steve also enjoyed dining out and had several favorite restaurants in the area.
Steve will be fondly remembered for his generosity, unwavering loyalty to his friends, steadfast faith, and his affection for his cat, Jackson. Despite facing health complications, Steve remained resilient and fought bravely. His strong religious convictions guided his life, and his devotion to humanity was evident in all he did.
Steve was cremated in Florida, and his cremains will be scattered in South Florida, honoring his wishes and the place he called home in his final years.
