RJ, 69, of Orlando, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on November 6, 2024 after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. RJ was born on September 8, 1955 in Pompton Plains, New Jersey.
RJ served in the United States Navy as a culinary specialist, nourishing over 300 crew members and as an artillery crew member. As such, he was a skilled military professional responsible for operating artillery weapons. He and his fellow crew members worked as a team to load, aim, and fire powerful weapons.
Prior to entering retirement, he also had a 50-year career in welding and mechanics. After dating the love of his life for 10 years, on February 4, 1994, RJ married Robin, in Winter Park, FL. They’ve celebrated 40 years together.
Throughout his life, he was very caring and selfless. There was never a person he didn’t help that needed him. Family was everything to him. He loved his fishing buddies and friends. He found so much joy spending time together with his wife & family at their many gatherings for holidays & special occasions. His favorite pastimes were fishing, cruising, playing cards, watching NASCAR & his Sunday football games. He’s was a diehard Giants fan.
RJ’s sarcastic, dry & fun-twisted sense of humor was one of a kind along with his trademark expression of a look he would give over his glasses with the drop of his chin. If you know, you know.
RJ is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Robin; his sons, Robert (Cristie) & Allen; his daughters, Cheryl (Ken), Robin, Mary (Elan) & Dana (Hal); his thirteen grandchildren, Shannon, Breeanna, Evie, Cole, Nyla, Jonathan, Joshua, Joann, Felicia, Alex, Arzana & Daveena; his three great-grandsons, Kyrie, Remi & Jasper; his brothers, Eddie & Tony (Dee); his sisters, Mary (Rex), Glenda (Danny) & Anna; his sister-in-laws, Paula (Johnny), Renee, Sandy (Billy); his brother-in-law, Randy; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews; not to mention countless friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, John & Juanita Dorst; his grandson, Liam Dorst; & his brother-in-laws, Rick & Jeff.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 9:30 am at Eastland Baptist Church located at 9000 Lake Underhill Rd, Orlando, FL 32825. His military honors & burial service will follow promptly at 1:15pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 U.S. Highway 1, North Mims, FL 32754.
