Roger Martin Vaughan, age 78, of Russell, Kentucky, formerly of Leander, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Cabell Huntington Hospital of an extended illness.
Roger was born November 19, 1945 in Johnson County, Kentucky, the son of the late Nolan and Alva Hackworth Vaughan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Douglas Vaughan and a half sister, Wilma Jane Jayne.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judi Steed Vaughan; one daughter, Dawn Vaughan of West Palm Beach, Florida; two granddaughters, Brittneyann and beloved grandson-in-law, Milad Modarresi of Chesapeake, Ohio and Delaney Hetzer of West Palm Beach, Florida; three sisters, Elaine (Bob) Gregg of Forth Worth, Texas, Linda (David) Clouse of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Judy Ann Vaughan of Leander, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.
During his life he worked for the Kentucky State Police as a Trooper, Ampsco Electric, Collins Career Center teaching diesel mechanics, and retired from Armco Steel. Also, he gladly served in the US Army Reserves.
Roger never really met a stranger. He loved his family, genuinely liked to travel, and always enjoyed talking and joking with people.
He was saved baptized at Southside Free Will Baptist Church in the 1970's and rededicated his life recently. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kim Stone officiating.
