Diane Schwab Obituary

Diane Emily Schwab, 72, of St. John, Indiana, was born in Chicago to Harry and Magrit Sugar. She adored her parents, who instilled in her a deep love for learning and family. An exemplary student, Diane spent the early part of her career as an elementary school teacher before working for decades alongside Rick, her beloved husband of 41 years, in his State Farm insurance agency in Glenwood. More recently, she was an integral part of her oldest son Danny's State Farm office at the same location. Family was everything to Diane: her favorite days were spent with her loving extended family celebrating special occasions and holidays, and she especially relished trips and sleepovers with her children and grandchildren. An exceptional listener, she loved chatting on the phone with family and friends and was especially attentive to anyone feeling lonely or in need of a kind word. The daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Diane was proud of her Jewish heritage and was an active member and volunteer at Shir Tikvah in Homewood, the synagogue her parents helped to establish so many years before. She was an avid news consumer who wished for a more compassionate, peaceful and just world. Diane is survived by her two sons, Danny (Emily) and Jay (Alexa), and grandchildren Sarah Aguilar (Luke Cramer), Gabriel Schwab and Audrey Schwab. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Schwab, and her dear sister, Robin Bralower. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF) or MAZON. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at Shir Tikvah, 1424 W. 183rd St. in Homewood, IL. Burial will follow at Jewish Oakridge Cemetery in Hillside, IL.
