Robert Melchionna Obituary

Robert A. Melchionna
Robert A. Melchionna, known to many as Bob, passed away on September 9, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Waterbury, CT, he was the eldest of Carmine and Aurora (Queiroga) Melchionna's four children.
Bob and his beloved wife Judith, "Judy" (Sumpf), were high school sweethearts. They shared 57 years of marriage and grew up and raised their family in Waterbury, CT. Ten years ago, they left Connecticut and moved to the Cape.
Bob began a successful career in supermarket retail at the age of 16, working as a bagboy for Everybody's Market, a small Connecticut grocery store chain. After high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy, during Vietnam, and was a proud radioman and plankowner of the ammunition ship USS Butte (AE-27). Upon returning from service, Bob resumed work at the same grocery store. He attended management training and was promoted to the produce department manager. He later moved to Labonne's Market as their produce buyer. In the early 1990s, Bob opened and operated his own produce store. At the end of his working life, he switched gears and became a realtor in CT.
Bob had a passion for motorcycles. He bought his first, a Triumph, in high school. When his sons were growing up, he had a few different Harley Davidsons and kept a couple at the house when they were in high school. Bob also cherished his 1958 Chevy.
As a child, Bob enjoyed playing baseball and, during his working years, he played softball. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and UConn Women's basketball team.
Bob was never idle; he was always busy, working in his garden, doing yard work, and fixing things around the house. He will be remembered fondly by his family and friend for his tireless energy.
In addition to his wife, Judy, Bob is survived by his son, Rob Melchionna, and his wife, Carolyn, of Plymouth, MA; his son, David Melchionna of Port Williams, Nova Scotia; and his twin grandchildren, Ella and Nikki Melchionna. He is also survived by his brother, Carmine Melchionna, and his wife, Patricia of Cape Coral, Fl; his brother Daniel Melchionna and his late wife, Michele, of Port St. Lucie, FL; and his sister, Mary Temporale, and her husband, John, of Cape Coral, FL.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 19th, from 9:30-11:30 am at Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 W. Main St., in Hyannis. A 12:30 pm committal service, with US Navy military honors, will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, on Connery Avenue in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation be made to the Disabled American Veterans Association, https://www.dav.org/ .

My condolences to Judy and Bob's sons and family for your loss .I worked under Bob as his full time assistant when I went from the south main Everybody's to the Cheshire store .Bob was a talented produce manager always trying new ideas in produce merchandising and teaching me as a young new full-timer the trade of the business which helped me later becoming a produce manager myself.Bob was a great guy always teaching and being the go to guy when we had questions to solve .I remember well Bob picking me and another guy up Rich Orienti the day of the 1978 blizzard to go to work from Waterbury to the Cheshire store in his 1968 Volkswagen Rabbit .well we made it 2 hours later only to return home shortly because they were closing the state .Also remember listening to the 1978 Yankees and Red Sox playoff game on the radio in the produce backroom when Bucky Dent hit the home run as Bob as well as i were Yankee fans .The next morning Bob hung a pair of Red Sox on the store managers Tom Sullivan's door with R.i.p.written on cardboard because he was a Red Sox fan.We laughed so hard .Oh all the store Christmas parties I sat at Bob's table always good times and the Memorial Day store picnics Bob would always help set up with the prep . That's how Bob was .I'll never forget those days and times .May Bob rest in peace.
