Leo Peeler Obituary

Leo “Gerald” Peeler, 79, passed away on Saturday February 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 19, 1945, to C.D. Peeler and Helen Watts in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was also the son of Ruth Kaloski Peeler. He was a graduate of East Rowan High School, class of 1963.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Andrew Kaloski, and his sister Joyce Trainham.

Gerald was an avid Nascar fan who even built and drove his own race car at one point in his life. He enjoyed camping with family, restoring cars and trucks, Braves baseball, and time in his home “shop”. He was a member of Harold B. Jarrett Post 342, St. John's Lutheran Church, Frontier Veterans House, and National Legion Organizations. Gerald proudly served 4 years in the Air Force with a tour of duty in Vietnam. His career included a Service Rep for Xerox Corp and later years as a co-owner of Aull Printing and Copy Plus.

Left to cherish his memory is Pansy Peeler, his loving wife who he married on December 7, 1969; sons Reverend Steven Peeler of Grand Island, Nebraska and Scott Peeler (Amy) of Salisbury, NC; his cherished and beloved grandchildren Andrew Peeler of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Graham and Sophie Peeler of Salisbury, NC; sister Kathey Fisher (Allen) of Salisbury, NC; as well as a number of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday February 25, 2025, from 12:00-12:45 pm in Ritchie Hall at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the funeral following at 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary. Pastor Lori Carter will be officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 pm at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144, with military honors provided by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Military Honor Guard.

A special thank you to Dr. Michael Goodman, Kelly, Kristin, all the VA Oncology Staff, and Liberty Lane VA Hospice House Staff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Salisbury VA CDCE, 1601 Brenner Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144, with the memo line Gerald's name to the Oncology or Hospice House, and to St. John's Lutheran Church, 200 West Innes St, Salisbury, NC 28144.

Gerald was a man of few words and strong commitment. Kathey and Pansy, I know he loved you and his family so much....and he was loved right back. I ask God to give you strength and comfort. You have a family built on love.

Pansy, we are so sorry for your loss. I regret that I did not see the obituary sooner. You and Gerald were such supporters of me while I was Principal at East and Bettie when she ran for and was elected to the Rowan County -Salisbury School Board, later to become it's first , and perhaps, only Female Chair. Your two sons were great students and great men. Steven always held a special place in Jennifer's heart. I know that Gerald is in heaven.
