Jeanette Burress Obituary

Jeanette Diane (Murray) Burress

1937 - 2026

Jeanette Diane (Murray) Burress, known as Jean to many, passed away on February 18, 2026 at the age of 88 years old. She was born on October 17, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN. She was the middle child of three to a happy home with her parents ' fairy tale romance. She carried that on to her own 56 year marriage after she fell in love with James H. Burress, who she is now reunited with. They moved to Santa Maria, CA in 1969 and made it their home. Jean is survived by her two sons, Paul Burress with his wife, Tammy, and their three children, Allyson, Josie, and Mabel; her son Bill Burress, with his wife, Lisa, and their two children, Corby and Brett; and her younger sister, Sandra Cross.

In Jean's senior year of high school, she was voted "best all around", which she carried with her throughout her whole life. There is nothing that Jean couldn't do, and if she couldn't, she hid it well or learned how to do it. Jean was a very humble lady who always said she was a "Jack of all trades, but a master at none". However, her loved ones knew that she was definitely a master of at least one, which was being the best mother, grandmother, and friend to the people that she is survived by.

Jean enjoyed teaching her loved ones new card games and skunking them in a game of cribbage. She never liked to cut the deck, but when she did, you knew you were in for it. She enjoyed baking her famous banana bread and award-winning ranger cookies. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, and most of all spending time with family and friends.

Jean's faith has been an inspiration to many. Even in her lowest moments, she prayed for the people around her rather than the welfare of herself. She was truly a selfless person, and she made the world better for that. She was full of wisdom and gave great advice to whoever asked. Jean's kindness, generosity, humor, faith, love, and wisdom has left a lasting impact and will be deeply missed. Her passing is a great loss to those who loved her, but for now and due to her wishes . . . well worry about it on Thursday!

A visitation and Rosary will be held on March 6th, 2026 from 4:00-7:00PM at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary. A funeral service will be held on March 7th, 2026 at 10:00AM at St. Louis de Montfort Church. A celebration of life will be held at The Santa Maria Country Club following the funeral mass. For anyone who knew and loved Jean, the family would appreciate you joining them to celebrate her beautiful life.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful if you would consider donating to St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church or the Oasis Senior Center. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!

Dear Burress Family, Please except our deepest condolences for the loss of your wonderful, kind and beautiful Mom Jean. Our family's go way back to when your Mom and Dad were back to babk neighbors to the Craig's in Camarillo. I remember when your Dad Jim and/or Larry build a gate on the back fence so that Jean and Dottie could visit each other every single day. That was amazing and who does that nowadays? Jean, Dottie and my Mom Carol had a very special lifetime, bonding friendship. Our Mom passed away in 1976 when I was teenager. Jean and Dottie for decades always tried to keep in contact with me and always offered their love and support to me and my brothers anytime we needed it. Jean was the most unselfish and kindest person I knew, and so was Jim. Our heartfelt deepest wish is that our folks are finally reunited again, in that eternal friendship that only the very fortunate, best of friends get to share. Again, our deepest sympathy for your loss. Sincerely, The England Family
