Caroline Massey Obituary

Mystic - Caroline Elizabeth (Roux) Massey, 88, of Mystic, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully Feb. 12, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born Aug. 3, 1937, she was the daughter to the late Joseph and Hilda Roux.

Caroline met her late husband, Richard Massey, while they were in high school. In their early twenties, they eloped to New Hampshire.

Caroline could often be found sitting peacefully on her deck, smoking an unfiltered Pall Mall, surrounded by birds and the gentle sound of wind chimes blowing in the breeze. She enjoyed completing word searches or playing her battery-operated solitaire for hours, content in the quiet moments she cherished.

She also had a well-known love for sweet treats. She would happily share with those closest to her, but only if you remembered not to take too many.

Caroline was always the loudest fan in the crowd, proudly supporting her children and grandchildren through every milestone. If it mattered to them, it mattered to her. Above all, she had a gift for making everyone feel that they were never alone.

Caroline is survived by her three children: Laurie Bowski, husband James; Donna Gale, husband Charles; and Brian Massey, wife Lucila. She also leaves behind her seven grandchildren: Kyle Gale, wife Jenn; Brandon Gale, wife Sarah; Ashley Massey; Nichole Traskos, husband Jim; Aaron Gale, wife Erika; Corina Massey and Brian Massey; as well as four great-grandchildren, Gavin Gale, Coraline Gale, Maya Gale, and Rosalie Gale.

With Caroline's passing, she will be lovingly reunited with her late husband, Richard Massey, and her son, Richard Massey II.

A calling hour will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A service will immediately follow at noon at the funeral home. Following her service, she will be buried at the Elm Grove Cemetery on Route 27 in Mystic.
