Alice Faye Ruckert (Hines) died on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at Cape Cod Hospital after a long illness. She was 82.
Born in Ozark, Alabama, and most recently of Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, Alice Faye spent the longest periods of her life in Weston, Connecticut and then as a year-rounder in Provincetown, Massachusetts; she loved the writing, music and arts-rich community where she had many friends. She graduated from Fairfield University and worked as a researcher, court transcriber and editor. She loved a good crime story and was an avid reader of mysteries. She also loved Dickens, Austen and Trollope, reading beloved volumes again and again.
Alice Faye loved gatherings, and welcomed all. Many happy evenings were spent full of music, great food and laughter. Right up until the end of her life, she cherished "cocktails on the deck" and looked forward to sparkling conversation with whomever was visiting.
Alice Faye was a trivia and puzzle expert, and trounced all comers in Scrabble and the New York Times crossword puzzle which she completed until her last days. She loved gardening and birds and many many kitties throughout her life. Her very first job in rural Alabama was at a record store, where she described leaning on the counter listening for hours to Elvis Presley, her first love.
Alice Faye was preceded in death by her parents Dannie and Thelma Hines (Blocker), beloved siblings Gencie, Joanne and Roy, and by her dearest friend Jean Cantin.
She is survived by her former spouse David Ruckert of Coronado, California, with whom she shares daughters Jeanne Ruckert Lovy of Yarmouth Port and Leslie Polk of Boston and Yarmouth Port, son-in-law Kevin Polk, daughters-of her-heart Sequoia, Heather and Bethany Cantin of Hawaii and Cape Cod, nieces Debbie, Diana and Mimi, of California, and other members of her extended family, as well as grandchildren Benjamin, Jonah and Rosalie Lovy, and their partners Marisa, Kellie and Jeff, who gave her much joy. She is also survived by her longtime partner Robert Gebelein of Durham, North Carolina and Provincetown and members of his family, whom she considered part of her own.
The family has established a fund to honor her memory and to support causes she cared about. Tax deductible contributions can be made to Alice Faye's Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation at this link:
