Joyce Guild, 79, of
Norton, MA, passed away peacefully in her home on February 16, 2025. Born in Boston on July 3, 1945, she was the daughter of the late William and Marion (Carson) Harrington. She was raised in Weymouth and Braintree, where she attended school.
Joyce dedicated her life to shaping young minds, spending over 30 years as a high school teacher, most of those years at Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School, where she taught both English and social studies. She had a passion for travel and brought her adventures into the classroom, ensuring her students could experience the world through her stories. After retiring in the early 2000s, she embraced a new chapter of exploration, traveling across the globe and finding joy in the company of lifelong friends and beloved family.
A lover of the ocean, Joyce treasured her time at the beach, from the familiar shores of Hull to the picturesque beaches of Cape Cod. She was also deeply involved in her community, actively contributing to the Norton Historical Society, where she dedicated her time and passion to preserving local history.
Joyce's warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit touched many lives. Her children will dearly miss her, Jessica Holst and her husband Robert of North Attleboro, and Michael Masone, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Nathan Barber, Jennavive Barber, Luke Holst, Michael Masone, Gianna Masone, and Isabella Masone. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family, and great friends behind her.
She was predeceased by her two siblings, Bruce Harrington and Linda Morse.
In her final letter to her family, Joyce encouraged us all to "be loving to each other and other people, always be kind, and give second chances. Love is all." Her legacy of love, learning, and adventure will continue to inspire those she touched.
In honor of Joyce's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held this summer in place of a traditional wake or funeral. Joyce deeply loved her family and friends, and that love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. We invite you to visit the Joyce H. Guild Facebook page to share your cherished photos and memories. Details of the celebration will be posted there once arrangements are finalized.
