Alice Payne Obituary

February 23, 1944 – December 22, 2023

KINGSPORT - Alice White Payne of Kingsport, passed away on December 22, 2023 at NHC Kingsport. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Alice was a very active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, including serving on the vestry. She was a member of The Daughters of the King and P.E.O. Alice worked at H&R Block during tax season for many years and also was active at the Storytelling Center in Jonesborough before and during the annual Storytelling Festival. She was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

The family would like to thank the staff at NHC Kingsport for the wonderful care they gave her during her several stays over the last five years and especially during her last year. We would also like to thank the caregivers from Home Instead during the times she was able to stay at home.

Alice is survived by her husband of 55 years, DeWitt Allen Payne; daughters, Beth McFadden Jackson and her husband Bryon Lloyd Jackson of Knoxville, and Anne Harrell Payne of Blue Bell, PA; and brother, William Walter White of Austin, TX.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 1:00pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Johnny Tuttle officiating. A reception will be held at the church fellowship hall following the service.
