Anne Brudevold Obituary

Anne Brudevold

Boston, MA - Anne Brudevold was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Finn and Esther Brudevold. She was the first of three daughters - sister to Halima and Christine. From a young age, she showed an immense interest in literature and music and quickly distinguished herself as an academic talent. Her hunger for knowledge and the literary world was large enough that it resulted in herself locked in the Northeastern University library stacks one night after losing her sense of time whilst immersed in a novel. Her passion for music became manifest by the age of 8 when she began playing the violin. She would go on to play with the Harvard-Radcliffe symphony, as well as with several jazz/rock groups throughout America and Europe.

Anne was a junior Fulbright scholar and went to Germany to further her studies. She attended Oberlin collage where she studied English, and Harvard, where she earned her Master's in Music.

Anne was a teacher at UMASS Amherst and, following a change in direction, became a massage therapist. She continued to write extensively, publishing several poems and short works. She was an Editor at Peregrine, a poetry collection, and owned Eden Waters Press, a publishing company.

Outside of music and writing, Anne had fierce intellectual strength and was passionate about the arts, horses, dogs, and the outdoors. She hiked extensively around the Eastern United States and spent hours cultivating her garden. She also traveled throughout Scandinavia, Europe, Mexico, and in the later years, to visit her children in New Zealand and Australia.

Anne is survived by her two sisters, six nephews, two children and three grandchildren. She will be most dearly missed and always remembered as an incredibly vibrant, intelligent woman, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend.

I knew Anne from high school and was forever intimidated by her intelligence and quiet strength. J.E.G.
