KINGSPORT - Arlen Wade Hensley, of Kingsport passed away after a brief illness on March 14, 2024 in the Holston Valley Medical Center. at the age of 89. He was born on Nov 1, 1934, in Appalachia VA., and was the son of Carson and Parolee Hensley and the brother of Gene, Dale, Terry and Dionne, who are no longer with us.
Arlen served in the Korean War as a radioman in FOX2-5, 1st Marine Division where he earned a Purple Heart Korean Service Medal with two stars and a United Nation's Service Medal. Afterwards he attended ETSU and got his Master's degree in Biology and Physical Education. He went on to teach school in Hampton VA and at Abingdon High School, then pursued a carrier with the Government and did their sports program in Alaska, Louisiana, Colorado and in Germany. Arlen enjoyed camping, fishing and reading. Lastly, he was a board member on the Tricities Military Affairs Council for many years.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Karin, of 35 years, and several nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly.
Arlen will receive a military funeral on Monday, March 25th, at 2:00 PM, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City. For those attending this service, please meet at the cemetery by 1:50 PM.
