Bessie Sloan May 22, 1938 - April 16, 2024
GATE CITY, VA - Bessie LaRue (Johnson) Sloan, 85, Gate City, VA passed away, Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at her residence.
Bessie was born in Robinette Valley on May 22, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Roy Elmer and Vertie Geneva (Falin) Sloan.
In addition to her parents, her husband, James Henry "Jimmy" Sloan, sister, Inez Johnson Carter and brother, John Johnson, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Anette Sloan Parker and Anita Sloan, grandchildren, Marcus Smith and Emily Parker Overton and husband, Orville, great grandchildren, Uhtred and Finan Overton, sister, Bobbie Johnson Bishop, sisters-in-law, Geree Hood Hilliard and Geneve Williams, brother-in-law, J.D. Sloan, Jr. and wife, Sandy, along with several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. A Eulogy will be given by Larry Wilson. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m., Friday to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a children's charity of your choice.
