Biagio Vecchio Obituary

Windham, New Hampshire - Biagio (Bennie) Del Vecchio, 86, died on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born Sept. 25, 1938, he was devoted husband to his bride of 66 years, Nina (Williams) Del Vecchio; a loving father to his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark (Jian Ai), Christopher (Alison Dutchess) and Dale (Jennifer Patterson), adored Papa to eight grandchildren, Christopher (Paeton Noel) and Stephanie (Josh Hradil) Del Vecchio of Texas, Rose Del Vecchio of Massachusetts, Benjamin Del Vecchio of Los Angeles, Meghan, Marisa, Madison and Michael Del Vecchio of Massachusetts and Big Papa to two great-grandchildren, Harrison and Harper Hradil of Texas.
He is also survived by his sister Marie (Del Vecchio) Bontatibus of Manchester, along with many nieces and nephews.
Bennie, as he was known, was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut, son of the late Stephen and Mary Del Vecchio. He was predeceased by brothers Dominic and Stephen and his sister, Anne (Del Vecchio) Horwath.
He had a wide variety of careers throughout his working life in Connecticut.
He worked as a meat cutter for A&P and Prime Market in New Haven as well as Northford Meat Center and IGA in North Branford, as a milk man for Guida-Seibert Dairy of New Britain, as an Operating Engineer at the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Waterford, as an entrepreneur with his brother and father, opening the Northford Shell Station, and later as supervisor at Jet Lines (later Buckeye) Pipeline in New Haven and operator of Sterling Oil Company of North Branford.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Connecticut and New Hampshire as well as of the Holy Name Society at St. Augustine's Church in North Branford, Connecticut, the town where he and Nina raised their children.
A compassionate family man, Bennie always came with a joke, a nickname for everyone, some life advice and a never-ending work ethic. He reveled in the company of family and friends and liked nothing better than a DIY project at any of his children's homes. At a family gathering you would often find a grandson or granddaughter sitting comfortably with Papa. He also enjoyed classic cars, Mario Lanza, country music and classic movies.
Visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 8th, from 4pm to 7pm at the Carrier Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9th, at 11am, at Saint Matthew's Parish, 2 Searles Road, Windham, NH. Burial will follow at the Cemetery on the Plain.
