Bill Stone Obituary

Bill Stone

January 18, 1950 -

February 12, 2025

Bill Stone, 75, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 12, 2025 with his loving family by his side.

Bill was born January 18, 1950, in Gate City, VA to the late Joe Stone and Jean Carter Rhoton

Bill was a proud father and grandfather. With his booming personality and contagious smile, he was a force in any room. Bill loved to make people laugh, was always the first to help anyone with anything and was a good and close friend to many. Along with dear family and friends, Bill's loves included golf, his work and his colleagues.

Bill had a long and successful career at ITT and then started a long and successful career and his own business as an insurance appraiser. Bill was very well liked and respected in the insurance claims industry.

Bill was a proud Christian who expressed his faith often. Bill's deep faith truly blessed him with a "peace that surpasses all understanding" - Philippians 4:7. He attended Christ Fellowship for several years, proudly working the coffee bar and talking to everyone that stopped by! It was once said by one of the church staff that members stopped for coffee just so they could say Hi to Bill! Bill had just recently started attending Grace Point Fellowship, Kingsport which he absolutely loved and intended to join.

Bill joins loved ones who have passed before him, including his parents, his step-father Orville Rhoton and his sister, Ella Sue Cook.

Left to cherish Bill's memory are his wife, Donna Stone, daughter Amber Carter (Matthew);

daughter Mia Patrick (Franklin); step-son Brandon Carroll (Rachael); grandchildren, Sydney Carter, Tyler Carroll and Grace McConnell (Logan) and Huxton McConnell; sister, Gail Roller (Earl); brother-in-law, George Cook; half-brothers, Ed Stone, Phillip Stone and Charlie Stone; nephews Brent Jennings (Melissa), (daughter, Haley) and Ryan Roller (son, Ryker) along with many aunts, uncles and cousins and a multitude of close friends.

A Graveside Service will be conducted Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pastor Paul Warrick will officiate. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 pm.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of The Regional Cancer Center of Kingsport, Dr. Rini of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and to the caring, compassionate staff of both Palliative Care of Kingsport and the staff of Gentiva Hospice.

"Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball where it lies. " - Bobby Jones

Bill Stone and his family are in the care of Tri City Cremations.

I know I join a very long list of people in fond remembrance of Bill. Having the joy of knowing Bill for many decades, there are simply too many events and memories of Bill to attempt to share here - as such, it must suffice to say that Bill's generosity, humor, optimism, and friendship was without equal. His legacy will live with all of us, unfading and cherished forever. To my dear friend (and infamous "Bush-Wacker") I say farewell with heavy heart. To his family and extensive array of friends, I offer utmost condolences.
