Billy Wayne Dykes September 10, 1951- June 20, 2024
(Billy) Wayne Dykes, aged 72, went to be with Jesus on June 20, 2024. He was a beloved father, uncle, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Wayne was born on September 10, 1951, in Kingsport, Tennessee, where he spent his formative years on Long Island. He attended Sullivan West High School and later became a professional brick mason and a perfectionist in his trade. He worked at Mead and Eastman as a supervising brick mason and later became self-employed. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work and dedication. Wayne was grounded, sometimes stubborn, and always cared for his family.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Dexter and Beulah Dykes, and by his sister Lois Fields.
Wayne is survived by his one daughter, Christy Dykes, and his sisters, Judy Walkey, Bobbie Mann, Betty Crawford, and Jan Pearson, and one special niece Tammy Fields, and many other nieces and nephews.
Wayne loved his only daughter Christy Dykes. She was the light of his life.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Special thanks to his loving sister, Judy, who has provided care and love in her home for the last few years.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Dykes Cemetery in Blairs Gap.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin Fields, John Henry Winston, Derek Mann, Jonah Mann, Brian Taylor, and Owen Taylor. The honorary pallbearers will be Bryan Winston, Carson Winston and Brandon Crawford.
The family will receive friends at the home of Betty Crawford on Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2024 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the following address: 2004 Diana Road, Kingsport, TN, 37660.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Holston Valley Medical Center, ICU Step-down for their kindness and care.
