Bobby McNew Obituary

January 9, 2025
Bob McNew went to be with his Lord on January 9, 2025. He was born in Saltville, VA on August 3, 1940. His childhood years were spent at Fairview Farm in Meadowview, VA. After graduating from R. B. Worthy High School in Saltville, VA, he graduated from Appalachian State University, Boone, NC, and attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN. Lastly, Bob followed his calling to attend The Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.
Bob's career path included teaching English and Spanish prior to serving in the ministry full-time. He retired from Colonial Heights Baptist Church, Kingsport, TN serving as Minister of Education for thirty-one years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Rolen T. and Maude Cassidy McNew.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Doris Elrod McNew; his son, Jeremy; daughter, Julie; granddaughter Megan Begley all of Kingsport; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Rexroad of Emory, VA; a sister-in-law, Joyce Stroup of Lowell, NC and several nieces and nephews.
Bob dedicated his life to the ministry of serving others and to caring for his entire family who will cherish the memories of his kindness and goodwill.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights Baptist Church, 108 Colonial Heights Road, Kingsport. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Greg Burton officiating.

Bobby and I worked together at the press. He was always bragging about his family & I loved that. I was just in my 20's at the time, working while pregnant, and he would always tell me that I would be a good mother...that was so sweet coming from an older man. I am a good mother Bobby & a Nana of 9 grandbabies! You hit the nail right on the head!!! Rest In Peace My Friend. Terri Williams
