Jayne Michelle Hodges-Tasker passed away peacefully Aug. 8, 2022, at Aperion Care in Bradley, following an extended illness.
She was born April 2, 1959, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee, the daughter of James R. and Marilyn E. (Loiselle) Spencer.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Aaron Hodges and Dawn Lunsford, of Kankakee; brother and sister-in-law, Steven "Mike" and Mary Spencer, of Herscher; brothers, Jeffrey and James Spencer, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; and granddaughters, Ava and Alice Lunsford and Everleigh Ward. Additional survivors are her niece, Michelle (Matthew) Ward, of Herscher; her nephew, Jason (Aly) Spencer, of Florida; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jayne married Robert Hodges on Nov. 19, 1977, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Kankakee. He survives. After parting ways, Robert and Jayne continued to be close friends through the years. After relocating to Northern Maine in 1999, Jayne married William Tasker on June 9, 2000, in Caribou, Maine.
Preceding her in death were her second husband, William Tasker, on Nov. 11, 2019; her parents; and her daughter, Jillian Leigh Hodges.
Jayne was a 1977 graduate of Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School, where she was senior class president. She attended Kankakee Community College and graduated with a degree in nursing in 1991.
She worked as a registered nurse at Riverside Medical Center and St. Mary's Hospital, both in Kankakee. Occasionally, she would also fill in as a nurse at her father-in-law's medical practice, William T. Hodges, M.D.
Making a decision to take a different career path, she returned to school at Olivet Nazarene University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education, with an art emphasis, in 1993. She taught art in the Herscher School District and also in the Aroostook County, Maine, school system.
Following her husband's passing, she returned to the Kankakee area in 2020, to be close to her family.
Jayne enjoyed reading, oil painting and making ceramics and crafts. Her specialty was making beautiful, unique, hand-quilted Christmas tree skirts. She also shared her art skills by giving painting lessons to her granddaughters and their friends. She loved and cherished the precious times that she would spend with her three granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 5:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, until the 6 p.m. memorial service, both in the second-floor chapel at College Church of the Nazarene, 200 University Ave., Bourbonnais, where Jayne was a member. The Rev. Mark Quanstrom will officiate.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
