NICKELSVILLE, VA - Roy "Buck" Meade, 78, Nickelsville, VA passed away, Friday, November 17, 2023, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Buck was born on December 31, 1944, in Scott County, VA, and was the son of the late Charlie Meade and Sarah (Burke) Meade.
In addition to his parents, his nephew, Gary "Meado" Meade; and niece, August (Broadwater) Caudill preceded him in death.
Buck was the owner and operator of G&M Insulation. He won a business Associate of the Year award for 2009.
Buck was very community minded. He was a high school basketball official for 35 plus years. He also previously served on the Nickelsville Life Saving Crew and is a former member of the Scott County Board of Supervisors. He and his wife had hosted two exchange students who now live in Ireland and Belgium. One of the things that brought him the most joy in his life was his grandchildren. Buck loved a big, full garden, a good poker game, and the Twin Springs Titans.
Surviving is his wife, Joyce (Broadwater) Meade, Nickelsville, VA; daughter, Cheryl Nelms Baker (Brian), Weber City, VA; bonus sons, Dusan Vucen, Ireland, and Alex Dumitran, Belgium; brother, Jack Meade, Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Brody Nelms, Ava Sloane Baker; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Collins officiating. Chris Holder will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Free Hill Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.
Mark Dockery, Matthew Dockery, Luke Finch, Chad Davis, Scott Dishner, and Brandon Dishner will serve as pallbearers. The Cumberland District Basketball officials will serve as honorary pallbearers.
