GATE CITY, VA - Carl Gene Keith, 89, of the Midway Community in Gate City, VA passed away Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023 at Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness surrounded by family. Carl was born in Scott County and was a graduate of Midway High School. Carl operated Nickels Produce and later dedicated his life to the Scott County School System as a bus driver for several years and was an avid farmer.
Carl will be greatly missed by all friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, M. Dupree and Verda McConnell Keith; brother: James Keith; sisters, Esther Porter, Nanalee Carter, and Fern Light; and an infant grandson.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Doris Addington Keith; sons, Kendal (Edna), Michael Sr. (Debra), Roger (Karen); sisters, Mary Ellen Hamilton (Gary), Sue Dillow, and Elizabeth Jennings; brother, Bill (Edna); brother-in-law, Allen Addington; grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Hannah), Cody, Corey (Mercedes), Kaylee, and Anna; great-grandsons; Izaak, Kaiden, and Jaxon; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family will receive friends at home any time and then on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 6pm-8pm at Scott County Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 8pm in the funeral home chapel with Elder Harmon Willis and Rev. Steve Collins presiding. Singing will be provided by Copper Creek Church Singers.
Pallbearers will be Kendal, Mike, Roger, Michael, Corey, Cody, Izaak and Kaiden Keith.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, October 22, 2023 at Addington Frame Cemetery, 2244 Addington Frame Rd, Nickelsville, VA 24271.Family and friends are welcome to gather at 12:50 pm at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Addington Frame Cemetery, 2135 Wayside Meadows Road, Nickelsville, VA 24271.
