Carol MacGregor Shelton

July 17, 2025

Carol MacGregor Shelton died on the 17th of July at the age of 89.

She was a resident of the Blake at Kingsport. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert Eugene Shelton and is survived by a son, Mark Robert Shelton of Kingsport.

She was born September 27, 1935, in Detroit Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Robert Bruce and Lydia (Schuh) MacGregor.

She attended Albion College and Wayne State University. While at Wayne State she became a life member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority which she served as Treasurer. She graduated in January 1957 and went to work with Yates and Sanderson, a local C.P.A. firm.

She joined the Girl Scouts in 1942 as a Brownie and continued through Intermediate and Senior Scouting before going on to being a Scout leader She was a Lifetime member of the Girl Scout Movement in the United States. She was an assistant leader in a Brownie troop in Detroit and a leader of one in Warren, MI, and Marion, IN and Merritt Island, FL. While in Marion, she also served as a Neighborhood Cookie Chairman.

She was a Life Member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, Iris Assembly #5, Detroit, MI where she served as Worthy Advisor in 1953. She was a life member of Jefferson Chapter #498. Order of the Eastern Star in Clinton Township, MI.

While living in Marion, IN, she joined the Boy Scouts of America serving for two years as a den mother and one as the Secretary of the Pack.

While living in Merritt Island, FL, she was appointed by the governor of the state to serve on the Merritt Island Library District Board in and for Brevard County, FL.

She was a life member of the American Association of University Women. She served as Second Vice President while living in Marion, IN.

She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution Ezra Parker Chapter, Royal Oak, MI.

While living in Florida, she worked with the Cocoa Beach Lions Club producing Braille books for the blind. She was also active in the Cape Canaveral Hospital Auxiliary (Cocoa Beach, FL) as a board member and a worker in the gift shop.

She was active in her church. She taught Sunday school at First-Bethany United Church of Christ in Detroit, MI and Faith United Church of Christ in Warren, MI.

At Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Marion, IN, she was active in the Women Association where she was treasurer until she moved out of the area. She also served as a Deacon of her church for three years.

At Riverside United Presbyterian Church in Cocoa Beach, FL, she served as treasurer of the Women's Association for three years. She also served on the Finance Committee and audited their financial records.

She was made an Honorary Historian of the Mountain Empire Chapter #289 (TN/VA) of the Korean War Veterans Association.

A memorial service will be held at East Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 29th with the Rev. Chris Brown officiating. Visitation at 1:00 pm and Service at 2:00 pm.
