Carolina Turner Obituary

Carolina "Carolyn/Carol" Dysart Turner

April 16, 1932 -

January 20, 2025

APPALACHIA, VA - Carolina "Carolyn/Carol" Dysart Turner, 92, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025. Carol was born on April 16, 1932 in the town of Appalachia, VA. Carol left the area in 1960 to work in Vineland, New Jersey. It was there that she met her husband, Steve Turner. She returned to Appalachia in 1990 following his death. She immediately became an active member of the Southwest Virginia community, volunteering through MEOC programs and her beloved church, Appalachia United Methodist. She liked participating in plays at the Cultural Arts Center for many years. Among her many talents were cooking and taking care of people. Carol took great pride in her job caring for senior citizens and continued to do this even when she was older than her clients. She did all of this and much more even though she was legally blind her whole life. Carol was thankful for the time everyone spent with her and would always give her honest opinion. She passed away peacefully in Big Stone Gap, VA.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Turner, parents, Beatrice and William "Doc" Dysart, sisters Ella (Zirkle) Jenkins and Rachel Dysart, brothers William "Bill" (Corley) Dysart, Thomas "Tommy" Dysart, and Melvin Dysart.

She is survived by her sisters, Beatrice (Walter) Hall of Knoxville, TN, and Gloria (Bobby) Gillenwater of Fort Wayne, IN; brother, Matthew (Sabrina) Dysart, of Appalachia, VA, and sisters-in-law Shirlee Dysart of Big Stone Gap, VA and Sandy Dysart of Appalachia, VA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Her brother, Melvin, his wife, Shirlee, and daughter, Melissa, spent the most time with Carol in her later years and were especially dear to her.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 3, 2025 from 12 noon to 1 pm at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home with services beginning at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. David Rose. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, VA.
