KINGSPORT - Carolyn Sue "Susie" Gillenwater, 77, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at her home. She was born in Kingsport to the late Robert and Beulah "Boots" Sykes. Susie was an RN and worked as a nurse for many years. Later she worked as a social worker for UETHDA. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Gillenwater; devoted companion, Wayne Jennings; brothers, Ronald and Mike Sykes.
Survivors include her sons, Bobby Gillenwater and fiancé Sara Logan and Jamey Gillenwater and wife Samantha; grandchildren, Rusty and Jacob Gillenwater; God-daughter, Derica Parker; lifelong friend, Pam Parker; best friends, Glenna and Ruby; along with a host of friends and extended family.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Gary Calhoun officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:50am.
