GATE CITY, VA - Catherine Darter Fletcher Haynes passed away from this earth on December 4, 2023. She was born February 6, 1929 to the late Peter Haynes Darter, Sr. and Lena Kate McDavid Darter. The following siblings preceded her in death, PH Darter, Jr., Virginia Barber, William "Bill" Darter, Pauline Collins, Hiram Darter, and Elizabeth Fields. Catherine was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil H. Fletcher (1965); and her second husband Charles Patton "Pat" Haynes, Sr. (1997). The Haynes children preceding her in death were Emma Jean Haynes, Charles Patton "Shorty" Haynes, Jr., Peggy Grimm and Nancy Shelton.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer F. and Danny Rhea Meade; sister, Mary (Tommy) Fields; sister-in-law, Dorothy Darter; and daughter, Carol Sue Haynes Billings Grimm. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, Haynes grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank her caregivers the past few years for their kindness, help and support shown to Catherine and her family; Verdie Oris, Sue Wade, Helen Page, Mt. Empire Older Citizens -Dorothy Darnell, and most recently the staff of Nova Health and Rehab Center especially her nurse Debbie Arnold.
The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Scott County Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Holston View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
