Cathy Peters Obituary

Cathy was one of three Wallace sisters, raised in a loving home in Chesterfield, TN. She graduated from the University of Memphis, with a major in accounting. In 1968 she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Peters. After they moved from Memphis to Kingsport in 1975, Cathy worked in the accounting profession for 40+ years, retiring in 2018.

Cathy's delight in children was undeniable. Their son, Robert, and two granddaughters, Gwen and Jane, were immeasurably blessed by her deep, boundless love. She often shared how being "Memo" to "The Doodles" (granddaughters) brought immense joy to her.

Cathy made time for flower gardening, cooking, reading, and was a very active member of Saint Michael's Episcopal Church. Here she served in the Alter Guild, Vestry, Treasurer, and Pastoral Care. She was a member of Downtown Kingsport Rotary, serving on several boards.

A good friend is a priceless gift. Cathy's kindness, generosity, spiritual grace, and unconditional love were obvious in her countenance. Living with cancer for six years, she never stopped giving, loving, caring, or demonstrating her faith. These qualities were inspirational to all who were blessed to call her, "Friend."

Cathy is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Thomas Allen Peters; son, Robert William Peters; granddaughters, Gwendolyn Aubry and Jane Avery Peters; sisters, Dianne Short (Michael), Sherry Vaughn (Larry); steadfast cousins, Donna Wohlford, Sylvia Stone; four nephews; and very special family members, Michael and Shellie Templeton.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Michael's Episcopal Church with Rev. Jonathan Hermes. The family will be receiving friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Michael's Episcopal Church, 584 Lebanon Rd., Kingsport, TN 37663 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

I met the Peters as a child at our fellowship in Kingsport. They became family to my family lived down the street. As long as I can remember we celebrated Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and Easter together all the kids along with the Lundsfords and Additional family on all sides. All the " kids". The world sadly has changed so much . But I always remember Cathy beautiful and her laughter and classy style and taste . We always looked forward to those times of family being together. The older of us kids being treated as one of the adults enjoying the conversations and and laughter. Cathy is best friend to my mom and anyone who has ever had a best friend knows how special and unique that bond is. My mom adored her and loved speaking with her every day practically through times of laughter and tears for about 40 years on the phone or in person so the memories of all are interwoven and I know my mom womt he tuebdame without her just as anyone without their best friend. When a dear one passes a part of us passes too. So when I think of Cathy I also think of all who shared in our lives . Time flew by as younger generations grow up too fast! From when we were young we all loved going to their home Cathy's famous cheesy mashed potatoes on Christmas Day. The families at our home Christmas Eve, Lib and Bud and black eyed peas on NEW YEARs Day, Cathys Easter Bunny Cake, remembered. People that were cared for and loved a treasure of memories that brings tears to my eyes when the world still had fellowship and good. I cannot believe she has passed let alone the others we looked up to as kids. Cathy and my mom shared various things alike in taste and I recall my grandmother and her smiling and joy as well when we all were together. The memories all wrapped around the most important people in my life . Those things shared alike always hoping to pass those memories and traditions that were made special for us down from one generation to the next! Nobody can ever replace people or relationships or memories . The world has greatly changed and I believe the best the world has had in love and compassion and empathy has about passed on at least all that I once knew of the older times of goodness and family and fellowship . As much as I mourn anyone passing on I believe they are the blessed ones in this time . My belief and hope is in a better place promised as long as I live I cling to this and that is not here in this life. I cannot believe she has passed away my heart aches today for those who have gone on before us or passing the older generation I have loved and those so dear. To me life without all these people means nothing. When I see the world today I no longer see hope or compassion or empathy and hardly families. Yet I am one of the blessed ones because I was able to have joy and fellowship and laughter and goodness many have been through a lot in life and have not known such . I am grateful for the sweet and for the Relationships don't seem to matter but they and all that touched my life mattered and we're special and are special . Life has trials yet the comfort of love and fellowship friends and family - Love is all that matters-
