WEBER CITY, VA – Charles Smith Dougherty, Jr, 73, departed this life on Friday, January 12, 2024 at his home.
Charles was born in Nickelsville, VA on October 14, 1950, a son of the late Charles and Marie Dougherty. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Glen Dougherty, Timmy "BoBo" Dougherty and an infant brother, Scotty Dougherty. He worked 20 plus years in law enforcement for Hawkins County Sheriff's Department and Scott County Sheriff's Office. Charles served his community as a councilman and mayor in Gate City, VA for 12 plus years.
Surviving are his loving wife of over 51 years, Gail Dougherty; daughter, Sherry Dougherty; son, Steven Dougherty and wife Laura; grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsey, Kendra, Abby and Hunter; his pride and joy were his great-grandchildren, Weston, Bo and Carson; brothers and sisters, Lowell Lawson, Jimmy Dougherty, Gary (Donna) Dougherty, Nancy (Bobby) Collins, Faye Cleek, Jane (Dave) Bishop and Linda (Bill) Hammonds; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Scott County Funeral Home. Services will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor Riley Boy officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, January 19, 2024 at Addington Frame Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA where everyone planning to attend are welcome to gather at 12:50 pm.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
