Dallas Safriet Obituary

Dallas William Safriet

March 25, 1943 -

March 19, 2025

RALEIGH, NC - Dallas William Safriet, 81, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on March 19, 2025.

Born on March 25, 1943, Dallas was the son of Lester Monroe Safriet Sr. and Ruby Mae Phillippi Safriet. He grew up with his siblings, Lewis Safriet, Lester Safriet Jr., and Mary Safriet, forming lifelong bonds rooted in family and love.

Born and raised in Gate City, Virginia, Dallas developed a deep appreciation for his community and a strong work ethic. Dallas graduated from Gate City High School in 1962 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1966. His love for learning and dedication to his field led him to a fulfilling 34-year career with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where he made significant contributions until his retirement.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dallas had a vibrant and adventurous spirit. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed restoring antiques, and had a deep appreciation for nature, plants, and animals. A proud Hokie, he passionately supported Virginia Tech and made it a point to explore almost all 50 states, embracing the joy of travel. He also found fascination in astrology, always eager to share insights and discussions on the subject.

Dallas's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his children, Brittany Safriet (Marc Woodman Jr.) and Garrison Safriet (Amanda Safriet), and his beloved grandchildren, Gavin Safriet, William Safriet, and Remy Safriet. His love, wisdom, and warm presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished.

A visitation and memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 26th, at Carter Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 US-23, Weber City, VA 24290. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by the memorial service at 7:00 PM.

Dallas will be laid to rest on Thursday, March 27th, at 11:00 AM at Holston View Cemetery, 226-292 Yuma Rd, Weber City, VA 24290. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM. A gathering of food and remembrance will follow at Nottingham Church, 2616 Nottingham Rd, Gate City, VA 24251.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lung Cancer Initiative (https://lungcancerinitiative.org/) in honor of Dallas's memory.

Dallas lived a life full of love, curiosity, and adventure. His kindness and laughter will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

I´ve known Dallas for over 50 years and I treasured his friendship. We both went to Tech and I first met him there as an older friend of the "Gate City guys". Dallas and I worked
together and would frequently lunch together. His work was always respected and I learned much from him. He was devoted to Brittany and Garrison. The world was better for his presence.
