BIG STONE GAP, VA - Dan R. McCoy, 95, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at his home after a brief illness. He has been reunited with his boys (Christopher and Ryan). He was a Korean war veteran and the former owner/operator of McCoy Construction. He served 8 years on the Board of Game and Inland Fisheries, and the Region III office, Marion, VA was named in his honor May 11, 2006. He was a volunteer deputy with the Wise County Sheriff's Department for several years and was the commissioner of the Wise County Redevelopment and Housing Authority from 1997 to 2006.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Taz and Lizzie McCoy; son, Christopher McCoy; grandson, Ryan McCoy; sisters, Iris Henry, and Kay Henry.
Survivors include his wife of almost 70 years, Barbara McCoy of the home; daughter, Dana McCoy Wolf and husband Edward of Richmond, VA; sister, Tootie Mulligan of Covington, KY and her sons, Doug Mulligan, and Danny Mulligan and wife Brandi; niece, Gilda Sturgill; daughter-in-law, Lora McCoy.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home with services following in the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Greg Townsend. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia is serving the McCoy family.
