Darrell Campbell Obituary

Darrell Campbell

CHURCH HILL - It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Darrell Campbell, 72.

Darrell was born April 21, 1952. He graduated from Twin Springs High School, Nickelsville, VA.

Darrell was a kid at heart who was kind and fun loving with a mischievous grin. He had many nicknames by friends and family including Archie and Doogie. He was a loving husband and wonderful daddy, a pillar for his family and was always there with an encouraging word. The memories we have are precious and he will be missed greatly.

Darrell loved to fish, golf, play games, and spend time with family.

Darrell is preceded in death by his brother Fred Campbell, brother in-law Bill Kilgore, uncle Kyle Banner Campbell, mother Sylvina Campbell and his father Claude Campbell.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 52 years, Linda Addington Campbell, his daughter Shawna Harper and her husband Scott, his loving sister Janice Kilgore who he adored, his brother Lowell Campbell and wife Linda, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from his time working at the Kingsport Press.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Pastor Chris Alford will be officiating. Wendy Acker will provide the music. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Colonial Funeral Home by 12 Noon to go in procession to the cemetery.

We always laughed because I couldn’t remember his name and called him Lowell. Unless I’d just seen Lowell. I would be speechless! “Darrell”, he would say. Our hearts are heavy. We will pray for you all. Now I ask God to comfort you with His special Peace, Everlasting love and the Grace to keep facing the days! With very much love, Tony and Katrina

So many memories....many good times with my former brother in law over the years that went by so fast. We met when Darrel was 14 and I was 19, having just married his older brother Fred, way back in 1966. Darrel was so unique! He was tender hearted, lovable, funny... with that silly lop-sided grin he wore, thoughtful, always pondering things and asking questions about this or that. But mainly, Darrel was Darrel. I will miss him immensley and so will my three girls, Kim, Jill and Ginger. Darrel was their favorite Uncle.
Love and prayers to sweet Linda and her daughter, Shawna. They loved Darrel so much. They showered him with love and Darrel felt that love daily. He was loved by many and many will be heavy-hearted for a long time. He left his mark with all who met and got to know 'our' Darrel. God bless all the family and friends.

Archie, I sure did enjoy working with you. You were always the same every day. We could come into work with things on our mind from just every day life and be around you for a few minutes and the day would just get more better.
Enjoyed the conversations we use have.
I will miss them conversations.
