KINGSPORT - David Michael Cox, 74, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, September 7, 2023 following an extended period of poor health. David was born in Kingsport where he had lived his entire life. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School, Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. David had retired from Holston Valley Medical Center after 26 years and then worked for Old Dominion Trucking.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Virginia Cox and brother, Homer Ray Cox.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha Taylor Cox; son Nathan David Cox and wife Sherry; three grandchildren, Kiran Strickland, Mia Shea Cox and Layla Cheyenne Cox; great-granddaughter, Hope Strickland; sister, Judy Ferguson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with honors accorded by The American Legion Post 3/265.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sullivan Baptist Church, 4152 Maplewood St., Kingsport, TN 37660.
