KINGSPORT - David Daryl Jones Sr., age 74, of Kingsport, Tennessee passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
David grew up in Kingsport TN, son of Norman and Almeda Jones. He is survived by a wife, Hequn Jones and four children: David Jr, Justin, Angel and Gary. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Courtney, Corey and Austin.
David was a veteran of the Vietnam War and an Army Intelligence Officer (Captain). He was also a retired Tennessee Highway Patrol Sergeant. After his retirement from THP, David served on the United Nations International Police Mission as a police monitor and trainer in Bosnia and Kosovo for two years. He then served as a United States Police Advisor in Iraq under the U.S. State Department. He was injured during a suicide bombing in Baghdad, Iraq on October 14, 2004 that also claimed the lives of several of his colleagues.
A visitation for David will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 12:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 2:00 PM. A committal service with military honors will occur Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 3:00 PM. All services will be held at East Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd, Kingsport, Tennessee 37664.
