David P. Matthews July 10, 2024
David P. Matthews, age 88, entered into eternal grace with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. He had an MBA from Duke and supported the Blue Devils and adopted Tennessee Volunteers. David retired from Eastman in 1999 as a Senior Financial Planner supporting FBO and CIRBO. He enjoyed designing financial computer business models to make value decisions.
He was very thankful to the personnel of Warriors Path Golf Course who have kept the golf course in very good shape which made it a joy for him to play golf regularly early in the with morning with his golfing buddies. David marked his golf balls DM and was fortunate to hit the golf ball, as buddies often observed, 'Down the Middle.'
David was a long-time member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Kingsport. He supported Friend in Need, Holston Home for Children, the Salvation Army and Sankara Eye Foundation of giftovision.org and Navajeevan Blind Relief Centre of navajeevan.org.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte E. Matthews.
David is survived by his stepdaughter, Becky Mims and her husband, Jody; step-granddaughter, Kayla Helton and her husband, Ray; great-granddaughter, Lydia; step-grandson, Justin Mims and wife, Thao; granddaughter, Lillian; grandson, Daniel; and nephews and nieces in California, New Jersey and India.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of First Broad Street United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. William Randall Frye officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
