The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him and he helps me - Psalm 28:7
CHURCH HILL - Debbie Renee Marsh, age 60, passed away peacefully at her home on January 13, 2024.
Given the name Debra at birth, she was always affectionately known as Debbie, Deb or Debzo. The eldest of three sisters, Debbie had a wonderful childhood and fond memories of growing up alongside her many cousins. Debbie was a proud member of the first class to graduate from Volunteer High School in 1981. Her greatest joy was to gather friends and family together for potluck meals and fellowship. She was blessed with a determined and giving spirit that she devoted to numerous causes and projects, including leading the booster club at Surgoinsville Middle School and touchdown club at Volunteer High School, volunteering for the East Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce, and helping to establish the preschool at Church Hill First United Methodist Church.
After retiring from East Tennessee State University, she sought solace and healing during treasured camping trips to Roan Mountain State Park. She was married to the love of her life, Darryl, for 40 beautiful years and counted her two children among her greatest accomplishments.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Christian and Connie Christian; and father and mother-in-law Don and Nadine Marsh.
In addition to her husband, Debbie is survived by her children Amanda Mowell (David) and Joe Marsh; sisters Karen Gardner (Tim) and Wendy Bailey (Chris); brothers-in-law Paul Marsh; and Stacey Marsh (Kim Stallard); sister-in-law Kim Ward (Gene) as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
A celebration of life event will be held in Debbie's honor at a later date.
