Denise Rossi Spears, born in 1954 in Kingsport, TN, passed away unexpectedly on January 17th due to a cardiac event while walking her beloved dog, Smokey. Denise spent her early years in Northeast Tennessee, surrounded by a large extended family. Ten years ago, she moved to Houston, TX, to be closer to her cherished grandchildren.
Denise had a fulfilling career in accounting, working for PwC and Eastman before retiring in 2014. Her love of flower arranging also led to a business as a wedding florist and wedding planner for several years. Denise was a loyal and loving mother, wife, and grandmother, known for her generosity and devotion to her family. Denise found joy in movies, reading, sewing, and especially in supporting her grandchildren at their sports games and performances. She also loved walking Smokey and hosting holiday and Oscars parties.
Denise was an active member at First Broad Street United Methodist Church while she lived in Kingsport, and her faith was an important part of her life. She is survived by her husband, Garland Spears; daughter, Emily Spears Hammer; son-in-law, Aaron Hammer; two grandchildren, Clara and Andy Hammer; and her brother, Raymond Rossie. Preceding her in death are her parents Earl and Pauline Rossie and sister Sandra "Sandy" Rossie. She will be deeply missed by her extended family and friends.
The family will announce details for a celebration of life in Kingsport, TN, in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to childadvocates.org.

Denise and I were good friends mainly after her retirement, we had fun in a bunko group and enjoyed "pool time". So happy she could spend "special time" with her family. 71 is really a very young age to leave us, but the fact she did not have to suffer is such a great blessing. She will be greatly missed.
