KINGSPORT - Doris "Beryl" Bowman, 87, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord and her sons on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Holston Valley Medical Center with her husband, daughter, and grandson by her side. Beryl was born in Kingsport to the late Orgie and Rilla Jones. She worked at Eastman Chemical Company for over 25 years in food service before her retirement in 1996. Beryl later worked for Crossmark doing demos at the Fort Henry Drive Wal-Mart. Beryl was known for her infectious smile as well as the love and care she showed to her family and friends. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Temple Baptist Church. Beryl was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Gerald Lynn and Richard Allan Bowman; three sisters; one brother.
Survivors include her loving husband of 69 years James "Jim" Bowman; daughter, Sheila Sims; grandson, Cody Dennis Sims (Kaylyn); great-grandsons, Bentley Gage and Cody Dennis Sims Jr.; great-granddaughter, Raegen Mckenzie Sims; one granddaughter; along with two great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Pastor James Allen officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12pm on Friday, March 1, 2024 at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Randy Slagle, Jeremy Slagle, Chuck King, Cody Sims, Harold Shipley, and Wes Christian. Honorary pallbearer will be Bentley Gage Sims. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 11:15am to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to thank Amedysis Home Health, Dr. Ryan Hunley and staff, and the 5th floor nurses at Holston Valley Medical Center for their loving care.
