Gene was born in Kingsport on January 4,1941, to the late Lonus and Beulah Burton Allen.

He attended church, and later professed his faith by baptism at Sullivan Baptist church. Gene also enjoyed watching In Touch Ministries, with the late Dr. Charles Stanley. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Gene served in the Army reserve, and his hobbies included playing cornhole, an avid golfer, and the hobby he professed he enjoyed the most was gardening.

Left to cherish Gene's memory is his beloved shih tzu, CoCo Allen; daughters, Tammy Silcox (Greg), Teresa Coode (Rick), and Gina Grills (Dean) and his son, Hunter Allen (Andi); granddaughters Veronica Tutor (Justyn), Chelsey Ketron, and Courtney Miller (step-granddaughter) ; great-granddaughters, Hallie Gillen and Maren Kuivinen; grandsons Jonah, and Reid Allen; great-grandson Samuel Miller; sister, Linda Easterling, and brother Ronnie Allen, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Gene's Life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 22, 2023, in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel at Oak Hill Funeral Home with Gene Romero officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the chapel.
