GRAY - Edward Barnett Helton, age 83, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the Brookdale Colonial Heights Senior Living of Kingsport, TN. He was born in Rogersville, Tennessee, a son of the late John Barnett Helton and Ida Mae Courtney Helton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sandra Lynn Campbell Helton; one brother, Kenneth Helton; and three sisters, Helen Pearson, Barbara Robinette, and Kathy Helton.
Edward attended Gray United Methodist Church and had retired as a Carpenter for Piercy Construction Company. He loved spending time with his family, working with his hands and building things, loved animals and playing guitar and music. He will be remembered as a simple man.
He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Travis Helton and wife Jennifer, and Justin Helton and wife Stephanie; six grandchildren, Taylor Tedford and husband Daniel, Kade Helton; Grace Helton, Charlie Helton, Cole Green and Conner Green; two great grandsons, Ayden Tedford and Liam Tedford; five sisters, Thelma (Pat) Gilmore, Jewel (Judy) Rice, Darling Lindsay, Holly Wilder, and Mary Ruth Trent; one brother, Jeff Helton; three sister-in-laws, Connie Helton, Sheila Hodgens and husband Bob, and Paula Castleberry and husband Ken; one brother-in-law, Sam Campbell and wife Leslie; and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 12:45 PM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Aaron Atchley officiating. Committal Service and Interment will follow in the Garden of the Cross at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kade Helton, Daniel Tedford, Cole Green, Conner Green, David Fitzgerald, Sr., and David Fitzgerald, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kevin Helton, Kenny Helton, and Charlie Helton.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Brookdale Colonial Heights Senior Living and to his sitter, Brenda McDermott for all the love and care that was shown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Washington County Johnson City Animal Center, 3411 N Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
