SURGOINSVILLE - Surgoinsville: Frank "Rudy" Alvis, age 79, of Surgoinsville, passed away, Friday, January 30, 2026 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was a member of Surgoinsville United Methodist Church where he actively served as a trustee, and on the SPRC and Worship Committees. Rudy was a veteran of the Vietnam War (1968-1969) having served proudly in the U.S. Army. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6, Infantry Platoon Sergeant, Charlie Co. 1st Battalion/2nd Infantry Regiment 1st Infantry Division "Big Red One", and Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV). He grew up in Pressmens Home and graduated from Rogersville High School (1965) where he was an outstanding football player, taking his talents to the Corpus Christi University in Texas. His hobbies included playing golf, motorsports, spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, Thursday night poker with the boys, finding and making a good deal. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mayme Alvis; sisters, Maxine Epps, Nell Fama and Phyllis Allen; brothers, Walter "Pot" Alvis and Daryl Alvis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Patty Alvis; daughters, Haylee Goff and husband, William of Georgetown, SC, Carrie Smith and husband, Wesley of Church Hill; son, Marc Luster and wife, Chelsey of Athens; grandchildren, Grey Goff, Eliza Smith, Pierce and Marley Luster; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours will be 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 5, 2026 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Chris Ray officiating. Burial will follow in New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Hawkins County Honor Guard and U.S. Army.
