Fred Jefferson Pleasant April 18, 1928 - August 15, 2024
KINGSPORT - Fred Jefferson Pleasant, 96, formerly of Kingsport, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 15, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Fred was born April 18, 1928, in Dungannon, Virginia to the late Rev. Emmitt and Julia Pleasant.
Fred graduated from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army and National Guard. Fred worked at Meade Paper where for over twenty years.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Irene E. Churchwell Pleasant; brother, Marion Pleasant; and four sisters, Myrtle Collins, Pearl Collins, Virginia Kimberlin, and Roberta Pleasant.
Those left to cherish Freds memory are his daughter, Karen Cook (Terry); son, Steven Pleasant; grandchildren, Hunter Lee Pleasant, Meghan Nicole Pleasant, Ashlin Elizabeth Cook; special friend Marie Westen; nephews, Ted N. Collins and Logan Junior Collins; nieces, Charlotte Stephenson, Helen Hall, and Joan Mickelson; and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Concordia Lutheran Church. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00 pm.
Military Graveside Honors will follow at 3:00 pm on Tuesday August 20, 2024, at the Chapel Mausoleum at Oak Hill Memorial Park with American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265 performing honors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
