Gary Dale (Butch) Childress August 20, 1953 - August 12, 2024

BLACKWATER, VA - Gary Dale (Butch) Childress, age 70, of Blackwater, VA, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He professed faith in Christ and accepted Jesus as his Savior during his illness.

He was born on August 20, 1953 in Kokomo, IN to the late Ray and Bonnie (Adams) Childress. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Lisa Diane Childress and one brother, Mike Childress.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Wilma (Robinette) Childress; two daughters, Myra (David) Hampton of Jonesville, VA and Andrea Freeman of Pennington Gap, VA; three grandsons, Zachery Hampton of Johnson City, TN, Jordan Hampton of Knoxville, TN and Shawn Hampton of Jonesville, VA; one sister, Faith (Keith) Roberts of Duffield, VA; two nephews, Shane Childress of Bristol, TN and Clinton Roberts of Duffield, VA; uncle, Ray (Ann) Adams of Duffield, VA; several cousins and friends.

Butch was formerly employed by Virginia Brimingham Bolt Company in Duffield, VA and later at Exide in Bristol, TN. He retired from Komatsu in Duffield, VA on September 1, 2015.

He was an outdoorsman. He loved deer hunting, coon hunting and spending time with his friends. He was a hard worker and provided well for his family.

We would like to extend our thanks to Ballad Health Intensive Care Unit 5th floor doctors and nurses and Caris Hospice for their wonderful care. We would also like to thank our family, friends, neighbors, Temper-Sealy, Stone Mountain Health Services and State of Franklin Healthcare Associates (formerly Mountain Region Family Medicine) for their prayers and support during this time.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024 in the Flagpond Church Cemetery in Blackwater, VA with Brother T.J. Hood officiating. Music will be provided by Wilma Bledsoe and Kim Robinette. Everyone is asked to meet at Robinette Funeral Home in Blackwater by 12:30 p.m. to go in procession.

Pallbearers will be Zachery Hampton, Jordan Hampton, Shawn Hampton, David Hampton, Keith Roberts and Clinton Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers will be Delmer McPherson, Clarence Robinette, Larry Robinette, Mike Dorton and Rick Qualls.
