NORTON, VA - Gay Nell Steffey Presley passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023, at Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport, Tennessee after a brief illness. She was born on May 30, 1925, in Wise County to Earl and Vivia Hamilton Steffey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Presley, the founder of Presley Trucking Co., her daughter in law, Rhonda Polly Presley and her son in law, Donald H. Kennedy, her two brothers, Donavon and Jimmy Steffey, her two sisters, Grada Lee Stenski and Earlene Steffey, her brother-in laws, Harry Presley, Marlin Gardner, Pat Stenski, William Smith, J.D. Cochrane, Jimmy Tate, Lowell P. Thompson, C. Sterling Jones, Sr., her sister-in laws, Maxie Gardner, Ova Presley, Sarah Steffey, and Mary Ann Jones.
She was a former member of Central Freewill Baptist Church (Bill Harrison Pastor) and later before her illness, Church of God in Norton, Va where she was baptized by Rev. Bob Kespelher.
She is survived by her three children, daughter, Phyllis Kennedy, and two sons, Jimmy Presley, and Dale Presley, her grandchildren, Cindy Moore and Justin Presley (Megan), her great grand-children, Isaiah (Cami), Lexie, Gracie, twins, Connor and Sophia, Gage and Kase Riley and one great-great granddaughter, Scarlett. She is also survived by her sisters, Claudine Thompson, Stella Tate, Brenda Hash (Gary), Patsy Gardner (Freddie) and several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, Va. Funeral services will be at 2:00 with the Rev. Darrell Bolling officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, Va.
